Good Afternoon!

Are you sick of your life? Not proud of who you are? Want to change, but can't? There is an answer! Look at this. Romans 1:16-17 (NIV) I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith."

Paul, the writer of these words, is boldly proclaiming his trust in the transforming power of the message of Christ. When a person accepts and applies the teaching of Christ the power of God is manifest. Meaning that God's power is now enacted, unleashed, embedded in one's life. The result is a transformed life. God himself, his very attributes, begin to be formed in you.  The word "righteousness" means, "Equity of character and action." In other words, what I am privately and publicly is the same.

Again we are hearing of another public icon, Jian Ghomeshi, whose public and private life are drastically different. What we want to be in public, or what we want to be seen as, we can actually become in private when the power of God is enabled in our lives. The Gospel is transforming. We don't turn over a new leaf. We become a new tree. We don't begin a new chapter in an old book. We write a brand new story.  We don't reinvent ourselves. We become a new creation. This is what it means to be "born again." You get to begin a new life.

This Sunday, we are going to be baptizing two individuals.  We will rejoice with them as they testify to the working of the power of the Gospel. As the Bible says, 'the old is gone, the new has come." 2 Corinthians 5:17 Is it instantaneous? Not necessarily, but it is certain. It is the heart of God to be formed in us. In Acts 5 we have the story of the Apostles being imprisoned for preaching the gospel. In the night an angel set them free with this instruction, "Go, stand in the temple courts," he said, "and tell the people the full message of this new life." (Emphasis mine) Acts 5:20

Religion will never do it, philosophy is hollow, and good intentions are just that. What we need is the power of the Gospel working in our lives. Embrace Jesus and watch him transform your life.

This is Lunch Sunday

Please remember to bring a casserole or your favourite dish to share with the church family. We need to bring lots so all have plenty. This is a great opportunity to meet new people and strengthen relationships.

Move your Clock back by one hour Saturday night.

Remember to move your clock back one hour on Saturday night. This is also a good time to check your smoke alarms. Dead batteries in smoke alarms kill people. Stay safe and change the battery at this time.

Eat Local, Support Local Gala

A big shout out and thank you to all those who helped and supported the recent Our Daily Bread fundraiser Gala. It was a huge success with more than 120 guests and netting over 7000 dollars. Everyone had a great time and there has been abundant support for us to do it again next year.
