God, give me Courage

Are you lionhearted or a scaredy cat? Generally, people are quite comfortable to share their weakness, lack of discipline, and failures, except when it comes to a lack of courage. Very few of us will admit to being a coward. Cowardice is something we like to hide. We tend to make great claims on how brave we are, how dependable we would be in times of trouble, and make great boast on how we would never cave to a weakness we see in another. Most of us are not unlike our good bible friend Peter. He said to our Lord, "Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you." And all the other disciples said the same.”’ (Matthew 26:35)  We all know how that turned out. Just a few hours later, Peter is cussing and swearing that he doesn’t know this Jesus.

Before we come down on Peter, please notice, all the disciples made the same claim, and all failed just like Peter did. Even if we don’t see ourselves as courageous, we want other people to see us in that light. So, we walk with swagger, wear tight shirts to show off our muscles, and make great boasts of our faithfulness. Okay, you might not be wearing the tight shirt, but you understand my point. Our outward appearance is carefully crafted to hide our inner fears and cowardice. All the while falling far short on how we would like to see ourselves.

I have good news for you. Here is a prayer God will always answer. Lord, give me courage. And courage we need. To stand strong and tall for our faith in the workplace, courage is required. We need courage to raise a family according to biblical principles. The world is knocking at our bedroom door with an alternative message. Sharing the gospel with our neighbors in a culture that laughs at truth and righteousness, is courage displayed.

Courage is the number one characteristic in overcoming addictions, destructive habits, and resolving crushing conflicts. Courageous men and women can change the world. God is just waiting for us to say the prayer, Lord, give me Courage.

This Sunday we will be continuing in our Yes and Amen series with the prayer, Lord, give me Courage. I will be expanding on the following three things that will happen when we pray Lord, give me courage.

1. Holy Spirit comes to infuse courage.

2. Fear is defeated.

3. God gives opportunity to grow our courage.

How freeing it is to face life with courage and strength. You will find yourself moving from victory to victory. Your calling is realized, and confidence is in your step. Don’t miss this pivotal message. It has power to literally change everything in your life.

Communion Sunday

This Sunday is Communion Sunday. It is when we come together as a family to eat at the Lord’s Table.

Haiti

It is with great concern that we announce our trip to Haiti has been cancelled. There is rioting throughout Haiti in protest of the Government. All forthcoming teams scheduled to Haiti have been cancelled by Haiti Arise. Of course we are disappointed, but more importantly, we are deeply concerned on two fronts.

Presently there is a team of 24 in Haiti. They cannot leave at this time. Lisa is there with one child (Misha), while her other four remained in Canada. Her children need their mom and the team members need to get home. They are going to try to get out this weekend, as the word on the street is that rioting and roadblocks will be in abeyance and will start up again on Monday. (How they know this is incredible and speaks to the fact, these riots have some high level of organization behind them.) Please pray for safe passage for them from Grand Goave to Port au Prince. On a good day, this is a 2.40-hour trip. Much can happen on this road. So Pray.

Our second concern is for the wellbeing of those in Haiti Arise and in the country itself. There is no food, diesel is running out, and power and internet has shut down. We have orphans that need food, we have many people connected with Haiti Arise who are in danger of starving, and the safety of our friends in Haiti is a growing concern. Please pray peace to be restored and governments will become moral, legitimate, and care for the people.
