This is the second Sunday of Advent. Our theme is peace. This word is eirēnē in the Greek which has a little different nuance to the Hebrew word Shalom translated as peace. Eirēnē has to do with national tranquility as in peace in the land. Wouldn’t that be nice? There is precious little peace in the world, in our country and even in a lot of homes. There is no “peace” because we are determined to be self-directed, self-sufficient, and self-focused. In other words, we have taken on the “self” as our highest value. The memes and philosophy of the day is to look after self first. Sounds good, but selfishness never brings peace to the inner man, the home, or the country. Christmas is all about others. For God so loved the world that he gave! Giving will bring peace to oneself and to others.
This Sunday we will be talking about peace and the heart of Christmas. Bring a friend - Pastor Jim Reimer.
Communion Sunday
This Sunday, we will have communion, so if you are joining us online, be prepared at home with some grape juice and bread as we share in this special time together.
