What's Up @ KCF

Here we go, the last part in our upper room series, ‘famous last words’! What a privilege to look into some of these intimate last hours of Jesus‘ life with his disciples. Bible scholar Darrell Johnson says that these chapters of the upper room are one of the key five sections of scriptures that serious disciples of Jesus should soak in. He says that in these chapters, “Jesus prepares the first band of disciples to go on living in the absence of his physical presence. Not in the absence of his presence. For in the upper room, Jesus promises that he will be present in the person of the Holy Spirit.” His advice is to “soak in his promise regarding the spirit. And soak in Jesus’s prayer for us, wherein he opens up his heart’s desire for us. “

For me, one of the things that has been astounding is to see that Jesus' glory is not just when he gets back to heaven to be with the father in his rightful place, but it is actually displayed massively in him going to the cross! His glory is the revealing of his nature. And in going to the cross, he reveals that he is the self-sacrificing God. He reveals his love, his mercy, his justice, his wrath, his compassion, and the incredible length he goes to win a people for himself. It’s the cross and his ascension that reveal the fullness of his glory!

This Sunday we will look at the unity that he has made possible and how it reveals the legitimacy of Jesus and the Fathers incredible love for us.

The whole series has revealed that we are a community gathered, filled, and sent. A community gathered around Jesus, filled with his Spirit, and sent for the Father.

I am really looking forward to being more and more of that community together at Kootenay Christian Fellowship. And I look forward to seeing you on Sunday at 10:30am – Pastor Andrew Freeman.
