Good Morning!

Have you ever wondered who gets paid the most, Nerds or Jocks? Consider the following:

When Michael Jordan played basketball he made over $300,000 a game.  That equals $10,000 a minute, at an average of 30 minutes per game.  With $40 million in endorsements, he would make $178,100 a day, working or not. If he sleeps 7 hours a night, he makes $52,000 every night while visions of sugarplums dance in his head. If he decides to have a 5-minute egg, he'll make $618 while boiling it. In one year he made more than twice as much as all U.S. past presidents for all of their terms combined.

However, if Jordan saves 100% of his income for the next 250 years, he'll still have less than Bill Gates has today. Game over.  Nerd wins.

The Bible has a lot to say about money, assets, wealth, and the lack thereof. Approximately one third of all the teaching of Jesus dealt with material possessions in one way or another. It may surprise you to find what the Bible actually says about money.

What is the purpose of wealth? Is money evil? Is it somehow more spiritual to be poor than rich? Have you heard this quote, “money is the root of all evil”? Actually it is a miss-quote. The original Bible quote goes like this: "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people eager for money have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs." (1 Timothy 6:10 NIV)  Money is not the problem. The issue is “the love of it” that will get one into all kinds of hot water. In this case, money simply serves to illustrate where our love is centered. Matthew 6:21 “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” What you love is what you treasure. The battle for your heart is at stake. Is God your treasure or is money? But it could also be the desire for power, possession, social status, or even your problems that become your treasure. What I mean by this is that anything that takes up your thoughts, your time, and your efforts to the exclusion of God is misplaced “treasure” in your heart.

We will be naturally drawn to our treasure.  What we love is what we value, protect, and seek. So why is God not our highest treasure? Good question! I will attempt to answer that question with a positive response to having God as our deepest and most valued treasure.  You will find this message encouraging and uplifting as we realize the benefits of putting God as our most prized possession.

Baptism

Last Sunday, we saw three people become brand new creations in Christ as they took the important step in proclaiming to the world their desire to follow Jesus. At the conclusion of our celebration, we had more requests to receive baptism. This Sunday we will have another baptism and welcome any other inquiries on this important part of the Christian Faith.

Canada Day

We will be out on Canada Day in full force. We will be participating and sponsoring the Joseph’s Tent of Dreams, as well as hosting a Tent to promote Our Daily Bread. April Coyle will be dressed up as a cow to emphasise the need for meat.  People will have the opportunity to donate money to put spots on the cow.  Children will be able to decorate cookies with the Canadian flag using icing.  In addition, we will be giving away free cotton candy.  Come and join the fun. If you would like to help, call April or Rachael at the office.

Borsch for sale

We have quarts of borsch for sale in support of ODB. $15 dollars a jar. This borsch was made by the Russian Ministry team and is what is left over. If you would like one or two jars, email Rachael and we will set it aside for you. Rachael@kcfoffice.com
