A Better Way to Live
Part One, Watch Your Life
Paul taught young Timothy to “watch his life and doctrine closely.” (1 Timothy 4:16) Notice the order, watch your life and then what you believe. How one lives “life” will determine your well being, your prosperity or lack thereof, and your future. And how one lives is very much tied to what you believe. We act out our beliefs.
However, some of us can believe something to be true and beneficial but are completely unable to make it a reality in our lives.
For example, everyone will agree saving money is a good thing, yet most people do not have a consistent and dedicated savings plan. Most will attest, exercise is good for you. But their exercise program consists of multiple treks from the couch to the fridge. We know the key to good relationships is commitment, but fickle is often the heart’s reality.
Knowing the right stuff is not enough. If our heart is damaged, we will have problems in life. So Paul is saying “watch your life”. To determine the condition of the heart; look at the way you live, take note on the way you react to life stresses, observe your interaction with those that irritate you, and it will show you areas that need spiritual healing.
If you are having trouble with life, heart transformation is what you need. But heart transformation can be scary. Often we shy away from introspection, self-awareness exercises, or contemplation. For some Christians, this may seem like “new age”. But actually, when we make a practice to shut out the noise, enter our closet alone, and wait on God – something profound can take place. (Matthew 6:6) God will hear our cry and the transformation of the heart begins.
We are starting a new sermon series, A Better Way to Live. This series will help us all to deal with the core issues that keep us bogged down, stuck, or enslaved. This may be the most liberating and life changing series yet.
Invite a friend, let’s have some fun together each Sunday in person or online.
