Kings and Commoners
The contrast is stark, but appealing. The first visitors to visit the newborn child were shepherds. They came because of an angelic visitation announcing his birth. These well-wishers were commoners, peasant folk, without power or influence. God sent an angelic team to those without societal influence to tell them the good news that a saviour was born. They were so amazed and honored that they had the inside scoop, they told everyone in their circle. The second group of visitors was at the extreme opposite end of the socioeconomic scale, the Magi. When they showed up, the whole city was astir. After receiving an audience with the religious elite, and the King himself, they went to baby Jesus and treated him like the King he is. They bowed down to this toddler and gave him kingly gifts.
This story shouts through history of time, that Jesus is for all people no matter who they are. You might think you are not worthy of Jesus, or you might think you don’t need Jesus. The Christmas story says, both ideas are wrong. This, the last Sunday of Advent, join us online or in person, to experience the love of God demonstrated to all people. To us a saviour has been born - Pastor Jim Reimer.
