Stop the Wounding – Core Longings Fulfilled

We have within us core longings that need to be filled. They are love, identity, significance, security, belonging and understanding. All of these can only be met in knowing God through the person of Jesus. God made us in his image. And thus, we have a need for relationships, a need to belong, to love and be loved, to be safe, to belong and to be understood. When we try to meet the core longings without God, we experience wounding of the heart. For example, since we need to “belong” and if we try to fill this longing on our own, we will be encumbered with “fear of man” always living in insecurity, afraid of rejection and looking for approval. Despite our best efforts, it is inevitable that at various times we will experience rejection. However, if my belonging is based on my relationship with the one who never rejects me (Jesus Christ) I can be insulated from heart woundedness in this area.

This is true in all the core longings of the heart. When our core longings are met in Christ, we can spare ourselves of pain and suffering. I will be sharing about this in our next sermon in the series HEART MATTERS. Why not join us this Sunday? Bring a friend and let us go deeper in our relationship with Christ and each other – Pastor Jim Reimer.
