Together We Are Better
Is church attendance optional for you? Regular church attendance is trending downward. Yet belief in God continues to be relatively stable. It seems folks do not see the need for regular church attendance as essential for one’s spiritual life. Let me be clear, church attendance doesn’t make you a Christian, just as going to MacDonalds doesn’t makes you a hamburger. But if you want a big Mac, to MacDonalds you must go. I suggest that if you really want to experience the presence of God, you must be a part of a local congregation and a member thereof. According to Ephesians 2:19-22, we miss a lot by not being a “member of his household”. Here it is: Ephesians 2:19-22 “fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, …a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.”
Did you notice that Together, we become “a dwelling in which God lives” (emphasis mine). This is amazing. And it flies in the face of our cultural extreme autonomous ideology, that somehow we can experience the fullness of God separate from being connected to the “body of Christ.” The culture, the devil, and our sinful nature, cry out; we don’t need the church family. Don’t believe it. Together, we are better because Christ is in us.
As we study Ephesians, we see this theme throughout the book. Read it again and consider making a commitment to be a member of God’s family.
