Speaking Truth
“Speaking the truth in love” may be one of the most abused statements in the Bible. It comes from here:
Ephesians 4:15-16 (NIV) 15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. 16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.
Truth is no longer objective. It has morphed into how one feels, what one experienced, and one’s opinion.
Truth then is subjective and not necessarily true at all. So, what does “speaking the truth in love,” mean? This can only be understood in the context of relationships. The “instead” is referring to verse fourteen referencing folks with infantile thinking, unstable character, and gullible to all kinds of unhealthy people.
There is nothing more comforting (yet can be unsettling) when a faithful friend speaks truth to one’s heart. This can only have value if we are truly connected. Where it gets weird is when individuals speak “their truth” (opinions, feeling, and life experiences) but you have no life bond or attachments with them. When it happens it can feel condemnatory, critical, and judgemental for the hearer.
When we find ourselves connected, in relationship, supportive, that we are open to truth spoken in love.
This, in itself, is one of the great reasons to be in a church family and connected to a small group.
This Sunday, I will be giving insights into speaking truth to each other in love. Join us – Pastor Jim Reimer.
Our Daily Bread
We need a COOK. Our dear Melinda has to have surgery and is expected to be away for a month. Anybody out there want to bless the folks with a great meal? This is a paid position, starting September 10. Ask around, pray, and maybe even you are the right person??? Please pray for provision for Our Daily Bread. If God is leading you to help someone not be hungry, to have a safe place to go for community, and to experience the love of God, please consider Volunteering Cooking or sending Our Daily Bread a financial gift today. Etransfer to: office@kcfoffice.com – mention ODB.
Here is a video link that captures the heart of ODB. We hope you can take a moment to click on the link and watch it. We also invite you to share this link far and wide. https://youtu.be/BNJbNrIdQkY?si=I5Yip9tu08MoYKvf
