Change your Words, Change a Life

The pen is mightier than the sword. It is a great statement, but not to be taken literally. Unless it is a James Bond pen with bullet inside. It refers to words being more powerful than might. Words are expressed by the tongue. Here again, we have a great descriptive piece in James where it says, James 3:5-6 (NIV) 5  Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider when a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 6  The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

My hands can build a house. My feet can run a four-minute mile (well not my feet). But the tongue, that little organ in your mouth, can galvanize a nation, destroy a human being, change the course of history, or heal a wounded heart. The Bible says a lot about the tongue. What the tongue speaks will bring us to heaven, bring blessing into our lives, and can be the greatest source of encouragement for those around us. In my continuing series in Ephesians, I will be keying in on the tongue springing from this verse, “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” Ephesians 4:29 (NIV)

In this message, you will hear helpful tips on controlling the tongue, how it can be a blessing to others, and how the use of the tongue affects our lives.
