In Ephesians 5:32 we read, “This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the Church”. The mystery that Paul is revealing is that God made it possible that we [the church] can be joined with him as a bride with a bridegroom. How does this happen?
On the cross Jesus said, “It is finished”, and he covered our sin. God has utterly redeemed you and by extension us as the church. It’s done now, but it’s still being done. If you imagine a boat on a voyage, he’s provided a means for us to enter the boat but we’re not at our destination, he’s taking us somewhere.
And he’s utterly committed to us in that process. He’s the one that completes the good work that he started in us (Philippians 1:6) as we are constantly being renewed and transformed into his image (Romans 8:29, 2 Corinthians 3:18). And let’s not forget the previous passage in Ephesians that says, “...that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.” (Ephesians 5:27).
Join us this Sunday as we worship the one that completes the good work that he started in us - Robin Ball.
