The Turning Point

 We are looking right now at God’s big story and where we find ourselves in it. We looked at how God intended things to be and how the image was shattered by sin, and what God promised to do to bring us back. This Sunday we are looking at that very moment, that turning point, that intersection of God and man. But what is the true turning point in our lives? What really makes a difference? What brings us from death to life. Well, here it is: The kindness of God meets the brokenness of man and embraces it. The kindness of God in the person of the Father, meets the brokenness in each man or woman or child and encompasses them in his loving arms. What do we do?  Very little! A turn of our heads, a turning in the direction of home and he is right there. In fact he meets us before we have even turned, Romans 2:4 makes clear that it is the kindness of God that leads us to repentance. So even before we make our first move, he has already moved to us, he has already poured out his kindness and love on us. 

 In the story of the prodigal son, it was the memory of the father’s kindness that brought him to his senses. The memory of the father’s kindness even to the lowest, to servants, that made him want to turn and head home. Like a distant echo of a beautiful sound, or the faint scent of a beautiful fragrance, almost forgotten and yet suddenly appearing that awakened him again. He has poured out his kindness through Jesus and his life laid down for us, and we respond to him with our lives, and in that moment we are changed!

 And this is not an abstract thing, but is happening in us and around us as God reveals his love to us and we respond to him. It happened this week, someone responded to God’s love with the choice to give their life to him and the desire to be baptised and live for him. It is happening, and it all originates in his incredible love for us. This Sunday we will hear at least three stories of this ‘Turning point’ and how God is continuing to change lives through his grace and kindness.

Clearwater Bible College Annual Road Trip

Clearwater Bible College students will be coming to KCF on Wednesday, Feb 25 and Feb 26. The group will be at The Well on the Wednesday evening and they are looking forward to meeting you there. Then on the Thursday morning they will be helping out at Our Daily Bread and the S.H.A.R.E. Nelson store.
