No words…
Writer’s block! Here I am again… Sunday’s coming and Easter approaches. I feel like I’ve got nothing! I mean what do you say about the greatest event in history? Where do you start? How can I explain something of this magnitude, with words? Thoughts come to mind and then I pause, I read the story again… Nothing! How do you write about something like this, how do you speak about it without it sounding common or trite… how can I ever do it justice?
God in flesh appearing, living, breathing, one of us, yet different… perfect. Growing up, subject to his parents, learning, growing, yielded. Calling men and women to follow. Doing miracles and wonders, speaking wisdom like the earth had never heard from one of its own before. Love that made the ground shake. Loving, caring, weeping, laughing, gentle and humble yet powerful and strong, with authority, the people marveled. Hated, hunted, despised and plotted against. Seized, manhandled, arrested, led away, spat upon, whipped and beaten. Stand with me there a while, pause, think, breathe…. Selah.
Creator made to bleed by those created, yet loving through the pain. Cursed by those under the curse and yet making himself a curse for us. Nailed and hung and gasping, all looking on and him exposed. Mocking insults flung like stones, shot like arrows from a quiver, piercing, tormenting, and yet in return “Father forgive them”. Darkness in day, the light of the world in blackness. Utterly alone, forsaken, rejected and yet he did not turn, he did not hesitate, but handed himself over Spirit to Spirit.
Dying… silence… Thunder, tearing, breaking, quaking, ripping, shaking. History on hinges turning. The payment given, the work completed, the barrier removed, the way made open, death put to death, sin defeated. The once and for all sacrifice given, the payment paid in full. The Lamb lies slain. The sorrow overwhelming. Stillness… night then day then night again. Heavy silence, mourning, weeping, hurting, haunting. Stand with me there a while, look, see, feel … Selah
But then the dawn of all dawns, the earth shakes, the tomb bursts open, death defeated the table turned, the rising, the rising, the rising. Trumpets sounding, heaven roaring, water flowing, ever flowing. The open door, the lost returning, family restored, children born, the family growing, nothing can hold back the tidal wave, salvation. Forgiveness like a river to the nations, healing to the broken heart, the dead are raised to life eternal, the mandate for humanity back on track and the pace increasing. Healing to the sick and light in the darkness. God dwells with man and man with God, the earth filling with glory.
How can I express this in words? I never fully can…No man or woman or child or angel. The power is not in the words, but in the one who paid it all. It is finished, he has done it, he has risen, and he lives forevermore!
Stand with me there a while, come, receive, rejoice, behold… Selah
Love to all,
Andrew
