What's Up @ KCF

It’s in the cloud!

The people of God were cloud dependent! Not for digital storage space : ) (I’m such a funny guy!! Sorry!) but for everything else! Talking about the tent of meeting Moses says, “So it was always: the cloud covered it by day and the appearance of fire by night. And whenever the cloud lifted from over the tent, after that the people of Israel set out, and in the place where the cloud settled down, there the people of Israel camped.” (Numbers 9:16-17)

The cloud was synonymous with the glory and presence of God. It was their protection, their guidance system, their place of prayer, intimacy and worship.

This ‘cloud-led’ living speaks of a total dependence on the presence of God. They never knew how long it would be, months, days or sometimes just overnight. Total reliance. This kept them ready, obedient, expectant, and watchful. It kept them hope filled, because they were never without his presence, it marked every day of their lives.  Wherever the cloud went, they went, wherever the cloud rested they rested.

Over and over they were led by the presence of God, and they were fed by the presence of God. He led them as they journeyed and as they rested the tent of meeting was open for business at all times. In Exodus 33:11 it says, “when Moses turned again into the camp, his assistant Joshua… a young man, would not depart from the tent.” Some would keep their distance, but for Joshua the presence of God was more than just direction, but was his longing, like the psalmist who said, “As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God? My soul thirst for God, for the living God…” (Psalm 42:1-2)

He is not just our direction, but our daily sustenance - we can’t live without him! He is our protection, our direction, and he himself is our life.  He invites us to not just receive his benefits but to receive him himself. Jesus said… “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” (John 6:35)

I want to be where the presence of God is leading and wherever he abides is where I want to stay. I want to be reliant, ready, obedient, expectant and watchful and follow where he leads. There is such life in this way of living, let’s go after the cloud!

 Love to all,

Andrew
