The Expectation Dilemma

A common reason for depression is failed personal expectations. It is also reason for marital conflict, and job disappointments. When one does not know what the expectation is at the worksite it is a recipe for misunderstanding and conflict. Same is with God. Sometimes we have expectations of God that are not based on His character, His Word, or His will for our lives. We have heard it said that faith can move a mountain. This is true. But if God doesn’t want the mountain moved, your faith could result in a sense of failure, guilt, or even a severe case of depression. Faith was not the problem, but misplaced expectation is the culprit.  A better approach would be to find out what God wants to do with the “mountain” and then believe accordingly. Expectations are good as they are catalyst for faith to be enacted. But false expectations is a formula for huge disappointments.  Knowing the difference will be a great blessing in your life.

Guidelines

Here are a few guideposts on expectations:

1. Avoid unrealistic or inappropriate expectations of significant others in your life.  This means, don’t expect others to act or perform in a certain way that they have not agreed too.
2. Have clear guidelines (written) on what is expected of you at the job site or volunteer situations.  This can be useful in family situations with partners and children as well.
3. Resist forming a higher expectation on your life than what God has for you.  God has specific roles and opportunities that are unique for each individual. A contented person is one who understands God’s calling and expectation on their life and functions therein.
4. Your master is God not what others expect of you.

To avoid the burden of trying to fulfill what other people expect of you, settle in your heart and mind what your role is (name the situation) and then communicate that with those you are involved with, clearly outlining your boundaries and limitations. As the scripture declares, Romans 12:3 (NIV)  For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.

This Sunday we are pleased to announce that Anne-Marie Haynes will be sharing the word of God on this very subject entitled “Great Expectations.”  We are excited to have her share, and if anyone knows something about “expectations” it should be the church administrator. Please pray for her as she prepares her heart for this Sunday.

Doreen and I will be visiting Kaslo Christian Assembly in Kaslo. I will be sharing the word of God with those fine folks. Please pray for blessing and anointing for us as well.

Pentecost Sunday Citywide Celebration

On Sunday, June 4^th there will be a citywide celebration of the birth of the church hosted by KCF from 2:30 – 3:30pm at 520 Falls Street.  All are welcome to celebrate this momentous time.  Contributions of baked goods or snacks are welcomed.  We look forward to seeing you.  Please let the office know if you plan to bring food to assist us with planning.

Family Camp at Dutch Harbour

Why not consider taking a part of your holidays to join us for family camp this year.  This is an inexpensive opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, Kootenay Lake, beautiful mountains and beaches, plus be inspired and encouraged. PART 12 (Pedal Along a Rail Trail)

This super fun bike ride with a purpose is set to happen on Saturday, June 24.  Come and join us for this incredibly scenic 4 to 5 hour ride with trestles, tunnels and spectacular views from high above the Arrow Lake.  It is a 54 km ride starting at Paulson Detour Road and concluding at the Celgar Mill parking lot.  This is a fundraiser for Our Daily Bread.  With sponsorships of $200 or more, your entry fee will be waived.  Registration forms are available at the Guest Table on Sunday, at the office during the week or at http://www.kootenaychristianfellowship.com.  Register now and start accumulating sponsorships!
