Less than Perfect

Today, discouragement swept over me like a wave in a tsunami. I have been pushing my body to achieve a faster time in the 5000 km distance. All the websites on running have strict warnings to go slow so as not to incur injury. The schedule of July prohibited me to continue my normal running schedule. When I got back into my routine, I went too hard too fast and boom, today I couldn’t run at all. The run is just 30 days away and I had been battling a knee injury and now my hip is acting up. I thought of packing it in. But then I remembered my God. He is able. He is my strength. He is my healer. He is my life. He is my saviour. I take courage from this promising scripture, “Now may the God of peace … make you complete in every good work to do His will.” (Hebrews 13:20-21)

The word “complete” is katartizō and translated in the Bible as perfect, mend, be perfect, restore, perfectly joined together.

To be Complete

Maybe you feel less than perfect, or not perfectly put together, or maybe you might need some “mending” or restoration in your life. Good news. The rest of that verse tells us it is possible to be complete, “through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.”

We could say, The God of peace makes you complete, restores your health emotionally, mends your body, and makes you perfectly joined together with God and others, so we can do the good work designed for us through Jesus Christ.

Everyone experiences obstacles, setbacks, and hardships. Some of us were abused, hurt, and rejected. But Jesus is there to restore, to make perfect, and to complete in us what we cannot do ourselves. When I consider the tension in the world precipitated by power hungry world leaders, the climate change the world is experiencing, the violence in the land by the hands of terrorists, the answer is not in religion, politics or a new philosophy. The answer is in Jesus Christ. Only he can put me together. Only he can give me peace when the world universally, or my personal world is crazy. Now is the time to accept Jesus. He is the answer to my personal life and he is the answer to a world gone mad.

This Sunday, I will be sharing on the “power of the gospel” how it can make a difference in every part of your life. This would be a great Sunday to bring a family member or loved one that is unchurched. Let them hear a positive message that has the power to change a life.

Communion

This Sunday we will be coming to the Lord’s Table. It is a time for all of us to share the emblems we have chosen to represent the body and blood of our Lord. We do this in response to the teaching of our Lord, as he taught; we are to do this often. It is a time of reconnecting with Jesus and each other as we share God’s grace together.
