Doreen and I are in Vernon, as I write this Blog. We are here to participate in the BC Seniors Games. Tuesday afternoon was registration day. There are 3700 participants. We began to line up at 3:30 and the line went forever. As I looked up and down the line up, I marveled at how old they all were looking. Then I realized with a shocking dose of reality, I too was “one of them.”  When I did my race today, (5k run) I realized that I might think I am still young, but those old guys were a heck of a lot faster than me.

Speaking of the race, I actually realized my goals. I have been having trouble with my knee. In the morning I prayed that my knee would hold up and I would not finish last. Both prayers were answered. My knee has no pain in it as I type this and I came in second from last. I was able to run it in 28 minutes and 20 seconds; well short of the 21 minute winning time.

I want to thank everyone who prayed for me and my knee, God really did answer prayer.

This week we will be starting a new sermon series at KCF.  It is called Holy Spirit and You. I think that Holy Spirit is perhaps the least understood of the three persons in the Godhead. Within the church there is everything from indifference to fear when it comes to the Holy Spirit working in our lives. We see Holy Spirit right through the Old and New Testament, working in the lives of his creation. This study will give us a good understanding of the person of the Holy Spirit, how he works in our lives, and how Holy Spirit connects within the Godhead.

Let me say this, as I conclude my musing for this week. In Genesis one and two we see the creation story. Holy Spirit was very much involved. The Bible starts off by saying, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the spirit of God was hovering over the waters.” Some commentaries suggest that the earth was in a state of chaos, but when the Spirit of God began to move over it, beauty ensued. That is what Holy Spirit can do so well. He is the creative side of the Godhead, if you will. When he is allowed to “hover” or move over areas of your life that are formless, dark, empty or in chaos, he can bring order, beauty and fruitfulness. I have found it so in my life and millions could testify of the same. Why not you?  If you have chaos in your life, invite Holy Spirit to come; let him hover over you, soak in his presence, and allow him access to every dark, unforbidden place. Light will come, change will happen, and fruitfulness will be your reality.

I plan to expand on this theme on Sunday, don’t miss it. The series Holy Spirit and You starts now, with the first message called Holy Spirit brings beauty out of chaos.
