Understanding the Bible
Proverbs 4:20-22 (NLT) 20 “Pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. 21 Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, 22 for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body.”
I just came from the hospital - sick people everywhere. However, sick people are everywhere; at the clinics, counsellor offices, the pharmacy, on the street, in our homes. There are a lot of people that need healing. You might be one of them?
In addition, to the conventional medical processes, the city where I live (Nelson) has literally hundreds of alternative healing options from Chinese medicine, naturopathic, homeopathy, massage, yoga, tai chi, diet, (some of these are dangerous and extreme) Reiki, Qigong, meditation, visualization and guided imagery, just to name a few. How can I not mention the latest and greatest healing agent, marijuana. Nelson has a strong reputation for a place to come for healing or for some Kootenay Bud (all medicinal of course).
One would think that we would be the healthiest community in the entire province. But we are not. In fact, we have the highest instances of mental illness per capita in BC. It might be because we search everywhere for healing except where healing is. Could it be we have embraced a method, a technique, a scheme, (and often at great expense) instead of the healer. The internet and personal testimonies are rife with fantastical claims of (insert program here) great success. Still people are sick.
This blog writer will not pretend to be one more on the long list of healing experts offering relief from emotional, physical or spiritual sickness. But what I would suggest is that we take the words from God more seriously and apply them to our heart. Sickness is in the world, not necessarily self induced. I just came from visiting a patient dying of cancer. But a lot of sickness may be the result of lifestyle choices, emotional baggage, and spiritual deceptions. Take another look at the opening paragraph, when taken as a guide for life and absorbed into one’s inner being, God’s word promises life and health. God’s word will instruct me and guide me so I won’t do stupid things that can bring potential harm to me. (2 Timothy 3:16,7) It will bring encouragement to my spirit so I will not be filled with despair, discouragement and anxiety. The keys to health and life are simple:
1. Remove potentially dangerous lifestyle choices from your daily routine
2. Choose to live in a state of faith and peacefulness, allowing Christ into your life
3. Exercise
4. Eat healthy foods
5. Make the reading of the word of God a daily experience and apply it to your every circumstance.
Here is to happy, healthy, healing life.
This Sunday we will be talking about the Bible. It may surprise you how easy it is to incorporate the Bible into your everyday life. We will learn interesting and pertinent facts about the Bible that will help us to be healthier and enjoy life better.
