The Resurrection and the Life

What gives you life? I mean, what perks you up, sends energy through your bones, and puts a smile on your face? Teenagers are notorious for being too tired to clean up their room, but miraculously come alive, when they get to do what they want. This is not just true for the youth, but every age experiences the same phenomenon. We do the things we enjoy with energy and feel a ball and chain attached when we must do task we detest. With one simple change, the ball and chain can be detached and left behind forever. It is possible to go through life with continual energy, joy, and enthusiasm. You might think the answer is to do only things you like. Nope. Impossible. Life is such that we are going to face the boring, mundane, and difficult. So what is the one change?

Attitude. If I like something, I will have energy, if I dislike an activity, I will have low energy and not enjoy life. So decide to like it. Just make a decision and like it. The issue is not the activity, the hard situation or even the degree of difficulty, but the attitude you possess. There are many things in life you cannot control. But there is one thing you can control and that is your attitude. This is not an emotional response, but an intellectual one. When faced with “hard”, acknowledge it is hard. But also determine to find something in it that is joyful, meaningful, and beneficial to you or to others. Little by little, your energy will return, a spark will happen, and a fire will start. Life is ignited. Sometimes it may be so hard; we just can’t do it on our own. We may need an infusion of supernatural spiritual energy that is available in the person of Jesus Christ. Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life.” He can take a dead thing (this is real low energy) and make it come alive. He is life. We do not really know life until we feel his love and energy flowing through our being. Why not invite Jesus, the resurrection and the life, into your “hard” situation and see the difference it makes. Changing the attitude is the first big step. Inviting Jesus into your world is the clincher to a wonderful, perky life; characterized by a smile (behind the mask of course).

This Sunday, Pastor Alex will be continuing the theme of Jesus – God in human terms. He will be sharing on the passage of Jesus making the incredulous and awesome claim that Jesus is the Resurrection and the Life. Those who believe on him will live – really live. (John 11:25)

See you this Sunday.
