Idol No More

2 Kings 17:41 (NIV) 41  Even while these people were worshiping the LORD, they were serving their idols. This verse is a picture of the modern North American Church. Those still committed to the Church are increasingly less committed to the greatest commandment of all as found in Matthew 22:37 “Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'”

In the modern day church, it seems we want to worship the Lord, but we don’t want to give up our idols. Idols of money, Idols of our favourite cause, Idols of social media, and the Idols of looking good. (Just to name a few obvious ones) Looking good is an obsession in this world. It is the pride of life. As one former, but still wants to be president would say, huge idol.

Bottom line: The Christian culture is not willing to give God the rightful place of being “our everything” in our lives.

We now pick and choose. We want a little of Jesus, a little of Yoga, a little Buddha, we mix it all together, sprinkle in a little homespun wisdom and boom, you have your modern guru, dispensing spirituality and masquerading as a Christian.

This Sunday we are continuing our sermon series of Jesus, God in human terms. Jesus made the profound statement that He (Jesus) was the Way, the Truth, and the Life. (John 14:6) Exclusivity. It is an oxymoron to worship God and continue to serve idols. It is one or the other. It cannot be both. God is calling us to be radically obedient and profoundly humble by accepting only the Way, the Truth, and the Life that Jesus presented. Will you be one of those?  Will you be willing to allow Jesus to show you the Way, teach you the Truth, and to be your Life? Will you look nowhere else for the Way, Truth and Life? If you and I will, here is the promise; you will come to the Father. Read the end of the verse. John 14:6 (NIV) 6  Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

We can have access to God the Father. All that God is will be made known to us. All the provision of God will be ours. Our past will be forgiven, our present will be filled with conquest, and our future is secure.

This Sunday, Pastor Alex will be sharing on this theme, Jesus as our Way, Truth, and Life. Join us, you will be glad you did.
