Hope in Advent
Christmas is coming. Have you got the tree up, decorations hung, and mistletoe ready? Oops, no mistletoe; it will be the next thing to go in this COVID-19 crazy year. But seriously, people seem to be more interested in Christmas than ever before. Maybe because it represents hope. Without hope, we are lost, depressed, ruined. The Christmas story is all about hope and a better future. Since the failure in the Garden of Eden, humankind have been looking for some sort of redemption - a Messiah if you will. One who could make a difference in a person’s life, turn this thing around, and help one with a fresh start and a great ending. Christmas speaks of hope being born (Jesus Christ). The Messiah had arrived, but hardly no one noticed.
Interestingly, it is the same way for many today. If you meet Jesus, you will never be without hope again. But he is easy to miss. When a prince is born, TV Cameras are present, throngs of journalists hanging on every detail, and the world watches with anticipation. But not with hope, as they know the prince, while exciting and famous, will not have any measurable effect on their personal life. But when you come into contact with Jesus, the one the world hardly knows, miracles will happen, your personal life will be effected, and hope will rise in your hearts for a better future, a brighter day, and a happier life.
With Jesus in our lives, it is never hopeless. No matter how cloudy and grey it seems, light has a way of breaking through.
November 29th is the first Sunday of Advent. For the next four weeks, we will be preparing our hearts for the coming of the King, the Messiah, the Light of the world. Each Sunday, we will be lighting a candle, reading a scripture, and preparing our hearts for the birth of Jesus. This Sunday’s theme is Hope. Why not participate with us and begin to prepare your heart for a meeting with the Messiah by praying into and meditating on the following Scriptures, Psalms 122, Isaiah, 2:2-5, and Romans 13:11-14.
We still cannot meet in person, but we will be on line. Join us on KCF Facebook page. See you in cyber space.
