Getting ready for the big show
Christmas is coming. Christmas lights are going up, cookies baked, and trees are being decorated. It feels a mite early, but I heard some people have had their tree up since October. It seems everyone is getting prepared. Normal behaviour; we are getting ready for an event. The prophets of old called people to prepare themselves for the coming Messiah as well. Unfortunately, many did not take heed. Some seven hundred years before the birth of Christ, the prophet cried, “prepare the way for the Lord” (Isaiah 40:3). And then in verse five of this chapter he says, “And the glory of the LORD will be revealed, and all mankind together will see it. For the mouth of the LORD has spoken."
This prophecy was fulfilled in part as our Christmas baby grew up and showed the father’s Glory during his life and crucifixion. But it will happen one day in full. The day Jesus returns, “every eye shall see him” (Revelations 1:7) For some it will be a great day of joy, while for others it will be a day of judgement and great sorrow. Again, we are told to prepare for this day. Christmas speaks of what happened but it also points to the future event of Christ returning for his Bride. Are we getting ready? At the birth of Jesus, it was the ones who were waiting for his coming that saw him. During his ministry, it was the ones who had prepared hearts that experienced him. And if we will prepare our hearts for Christ in this day, we too shall see him. He will show up in your marriage, at your worksite, during your recreation, even in your sleep, Jesus will come and bring you the joy of Christmas.
