Attitude Change

Twas the season to be jolly, now it is the season to folly. I speak of the annual ritual of the New Years resolution. 2021 is going to be better than 2020, is on the lips of everyone it seems. But will it be? How much of what happens in 2021 is in our control?  Actually, it is not much. But there is one thing we do have complete control of. Truth is, many people will be disappointed at the end of 2021; simply because they have not taken control of the only thing they actually have control of. That one thing is our attitude. If our attitude in 2021 is the same as it was in 2020, we may be in for a disappointment. Attitude determines everything. Attitude is the response of the condition of the soul. And the condition of the soul is determined by either the characteristics of pride or humility.

Pride says, I can keep going. Humility says, I have to try something new.

Pride says, I have done it right. Humility says, I accept my mistakes, and need to alter my path. Pride says, This has worked for me in the past. Humility says, Change is possible, with help.

To have a great year, the words of Jesus are instructive. Matthew 18:1-4 (NIV) 1  At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?" 2  He called a little child and had him stand among them. 3  And he said: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4  Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

Want Kingdom attributes, want Kingdom provision, want Kingdom success in your life? Then you have to change. And to change requires humility. The first step in change is the humble recognition that the way I have been going/doing is not working. Something has to change. Now the good news is you don’t have to change a lot. Just one-degree change is enough. Yes a little change will make a big difference over time. A one-degree shift over time will turn into 180 degrees. A complete turn around. A one-degree change anyone can do. A one degree modification is possible no matter who you are. Notice the context, a child is not expected to run the marathon, but is celebrated when taking its first step. We don’t berate the child for falling after the first step. No, we simply encourage the child to take one more step. We will never run the marathon, unless we are willing to shift just one degree. Like taking a walk or run, just ten minutes a day. Determine a time, set the alarm, when it goes off, take 10 minutes for a walk or run. This one-degree shift, over the year will mean you will actually ran more than a marathon. This small change will make you feel better physically, your mind will be more focused, and it will give you a better disposition. Up your game and listen to the Bible during this time, and you have just added a spiritual dimension to this one-degree shift.

This Sunday, I will be sharing tips on how to implement a one-degree shift so you can have a great 2021. Join us. Invite a friend. Connect for a great, practical, and life-giving message this Sunday.
