This, Our Finest Hour

Isolated. Aloneness. Disconnected. Frustrated. Fearful. Angry. Are these words describing you? Mental health is way down. Anxiety is way up. This pandemic is teaching us, we are not meant to be alone. We have lost something precious. We are social creatures and need a personal touch. There is a collective grieving going on in our culture. Grievers need comforting.

Let me suggest something radical. Here is what Jesus said, “I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Comforter to be with you forever— 17  the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it does not see him or know him. But you know him, because he lives with you and he will be in you.” (John 14:16-17) This was said to the disciples in preparations of his departure.

He knew they would feel alone, disconnected, frustrated, fearful and even angry at the loss of their mentor, saviour, miracle worker – their very hope for the future. Jesus anticipating their lives were going to fall apart in just a few days because of his destiny with the Cross, gave the above promise. Just like what happened to some of you reading this. No longer are things normal. We are tired of the rules, protocols, the isolation, with no hope in sight. We need a comforter. The promise is real. Holy Spirit is waiting to be invited in. When Holy Spirit comes in, he is our helper, our comforter, our guide, our very life. Notice the intimacy of these words. “you know him, because he lives with you and he will be in you”. What a promise! Holy Spirit living in us, comforting us, helping us, guiding us; not an outside force but a living being residing within.

This could be the churches finest hour. This could be your biggest moment. Covid may be running rampant, but when Holy Spirit lives in us, we can rise above the chaos in the world. Never feel alone again. Invite Holy Spirit to live in you. Allow Holy Spirit to be your strength, help, and source of life. If Covid causes us to invite Holy Spirit into our life, then Covid is the very best thing that could have happened. If that last sentence challenges you, then it might be that you are not allowing Holy Spirit the rightful place in your life.

This Sunday, Pastor Alex will be sharing on the Ministry of the Holy Spirit in our lives. This is a powerful message for us to hear in this time of trouble and hardship. Invite a friend to join us on KCF Facebook page or on Zoom. Love to connect with you.
