It Is All Good

It Is All Good

It is all good, has become a popular refrain. But is it? We constantly hear of rising interest rates, skyrocketing inflation, mass shootings, Covid surging again, and political fighting and war. This is a list of domestic and foreign issues, but what about in your home? Is it all good? Maybe not! Sickness, financial crisis, relational issues, pressures at work, and even lately the weather has not cooperated; all contributing to a stressful and anxiety laden life.

Then we hear the preacher say, God is Good. What! For many the message of Goodness of God is a contradiction. This Sunday, I am going to address this paradox – God is good, but my life sucks.

The problem may lie in the realm of expectation. If one expects to find fulfilment in this life, you may be setting yourself up for disappointment. Finding the right mate, job, or car may bring a sense of fulfilment, but that will not insulate one from the pressures that this life will bring. The Goodness of God is not realized in the things we possess or what we can achieve, but is found in the person of Jesus Christ. Jesus made the claim and promise, “I have come that they might have life and that life is full and abundant” (John 10:10) The promise of the abundant life, (good life) must work in the bombed out apartments of the Ukraine, the jungles of the Amazon, in the tyranny of Iran, as well as in the back alleys of Nelson. When Jesus is in our life, no matter what is happening, what the pundits say, or the threats we feel, Jesus is more than enough.

Try it. Invite Jesus into your situation and see the difference it makes.
