Reaching the Unreached

 God loves to take barren, hopeless situations and bring his life and presence. He loves to take wilderness places, deserts and make them a place of abundance and flourishing. He is a God committed to filling everything with his life. Isaiah 41:18, says, “I will open rivers on the bare heights, and fountains in the midst of the valleys. I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water…” Over and over again God makes these similar promises to his people. God’s heart right from the beginning was not to contain all the goodness in the garden of Eden but to let it grow and expand and fill the earth with his beauty and with those in relationship with him.

 He has never changed, his purpose is still the same, and his mandate to do this through his people, is now through the cross, back on track more than ever before. He loves to reach barren places, people that don’t know him, spiritual wastelands and pour out his Spirit, transforming everything. That’s who he is and that is what he does and that is what he has called us to partner with him in doing. In Matthew 28 Jesus expresses the Father’s desire, saying, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of ALL NATIONS…” with a view to bringing people into the Father’s family.  This is his expansive heart, “ALL NATIONS”!

 Revelation gives us the end time result of the Father’s desire, John writes, “After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes…” (Revelation 7:9). What a picture, what a desire and purpose.

 We have been reached through this desire, through a people who would not stay in Jerusalem or Israel or even the middle east, but kept on going with the gospel. And the Father’s heart is not that we would be satisfied with what we have got, and settle, but that we would also in turn carry this hope and treasure to those who haven’t heard, both near and far. 

 Over the next few months we are aiming at having several messages that capture this heart for all people, ‘reaching the unreached’, from people who are actively working in touching unreached people groups. This Sunday we have the joy of having Rick Luth sharing with us (father of Jeremy, who is in our congregation), on God’s heart for all people and how God has led him to be involved.

 I am looking forward to the way that God will expand us and how he is calling us to use the gifts he has given us for his purpose. Maybe he even has some unusual assignments for some of us that will take us on an adventure with God. Our lives are not our own, but are for the King and for his Kingdom. He will use each of our gifts and abilities as we willingly offer them up to him. May we as a church, carry his heart in this.
