Power for the powerless
As I was preparing for the FCA conference next week, I have been focussing on these words from Isaiah 40:28-31
Have you not known? Have you not heard?
The LORD is the everlasting God
The Creator of the ends of the earth
He does not faint or grow weary;
His understanding is unsearchable
He gives power to the faint,
And to him who has no might, he increases strength.
Even youths shall faint and be weary
And young men shall fall exhausted
But they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength
They shall mount up on wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.
What struck me in this is that the Lord loves to stand up for the powerless. We have a couple of humanly powerless situations that we are praying for as an international team right now. We can join in prayer for these. One is a little baby, a grand-daughter of one of our leaders in France who was born prematurely and is fighting for her life. She is powerless, but God is powerful! The other is a very urgent situation in Libya, where there is a planned persecution for today October 1st of black minority groups and especially Christians. They have been urged to flee. In one sense they are powerless, but God loves to give power to the powerless and to those who have no might, he increases strength.
Again, we see that our weakness is a perfect condition for God to move powerfully in. Where we are powerless, we are the perfect candidates to receive his help and to trade weariness for his unwavering strength and energy. In our weakness, remember who he is. He is the everlasting God, the creator of all, he does not tire or grow weary, he is infinitely wise and he gives strength to the weak, he is compassionate and gracious - and those who wait on him experience the great exchange again and again, our weakness for his unlimited resources. Whatever we are going through, let’s bring it to him, and wait on him and receive his presence into our situations.
This weekend we have the joy of Ron MacLean and Bryan McCrea sharing with us. Men’s breakfast on Saturday at 9:30am and on Sunday morning. I look forward to seeing you soon.
Love to all and see you soon,
