Imagine

John Lennon wrote the famous song ‘Imagine’. I once looked after an old atheist man who would weep at this song, it was his manifesto as it were that he had lived from - a world without God, without a heaven and hell… and yet it falls so far short of what God had in mind for his world.

So, let’s begin again… Imagine a world where there was no violence; no murder; no hatred; where no one stole or cheated; where people lived in right relationship with one another, with honor and respect; where no one acted out of jealousy and selfishness; where there was no broken relationships and families stayed together; where people knew and loved God, and were faithful to him with all their hearts… This would literally be heaven on earth! This would be life at its best! This would be what was always in the heart of God.

This kind of life is what God intended from the beginning! It is not God who has removed joy from the world and brought brokenness in so many places, but it is the heart of man. God’s purpose was for life and freedom at its fullest. But the heart of man turned its own way, it is desperately sick. Romans 3 says that “there is no one who is righteous, no, not one”. Jeremiah 17:9 says “the heart is deceitful above all things and desperately sick; who can understand it? “No one is right with God. What a desperate situation.

But God has made a way, God has broken into our hopelessness. Romans 3 goes on to say, “But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. “

The incredible truth about God is that although we were never faithful to him, he has always been faithful to us. And he has made a way, that we cannot only receive his faithfulness to us, but that we can be carriers of that same faithfulness in our relationship with others. If we will walk with him, he will help us to walk like him.

This covenant faithfulness is who he is and what he has enabled and purposed us to reflect to one another. His heart is for relationships to be full of life and peace and joy, and through Jesus this is possible.

This Sunday, we will see how there is life and freedom in him and a way to walk that brings his kingdom on earth. Imagine, AND walk it out!

Love to all and see you soon,

Andrew
