November 10, 2016

Everyone is talking about Donald J Trump’s stunning victory. People who supported Hillary can’t believe it and wonder what went wrong. Even the people in the Republican Party can’t believe it. Of course, they are all now best friends with the Donald. I always try to keep a neutral stance on political positions as my role is to support people no matter their political leanings.

I find it interesting that within the Christian community we have people who strongly supported Trump for President and yet we have other Christians who were vehemently opposed to his candidacy.  What is God to do in this situation?

It is like praying for your favourite football team to win. Perhaps we need to take a higher view of world events. What I mean is, God is still in charge. “He controls the course of world events; he removes kings and sets up other kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the scholars.” (Daniel 2:21) This was said during the reign of a most evil king, Nebuchadnezzar.

Governments in every corner of the world can be corrupt and evil or good and just. Our response is to be salt and light in the community we live in, to pray for our leaders, and be the best kingdom of God citizen we can be in the kingdoms of this world. I believe we should vote, as it is the responsibility God has given us in a free and democratic society. After that it is up to God who is elected and who is defeated. Then my responsibility is to pray and be the best example of grace and mercy God can be through me. No matter who is elected, we can be assured that God will never leave us or forsake us. He can prosper us no matter who is at the governmental helm.  We need to direct our faith towards heaven, not human institutions.  Come on America. It says on your money, “IN GOD WE TRUST”. Believe it! Live like it. I choose this day to serve and trust God. Are with me?

Communion

This Sunday we will be coming to the Lord`s table. It is a time for all of us to share the emblems we have chosen to represent the body and blood of our Lord. We do this in response to the teaching of our Lord, as he taught; we are to do this often. It is a time of reconnecting with Jesus and each other as we share God’s grace together.
