Pastor Jim's Blog

What you think matters - unless you are a teenager, a parent, a government employee, an employee at a large company, employee at a small company, basically anyone who is alive. I say this tongue-in-cheek. We can feel like that at times; while people say what we think is important, often that reality doesn’t fit with our experience. But the fact remains, what we think is important and it does matter. How we think will determine our actions, our emotions, even our very future. My views, opinions, and ideas may not be important or carry weight with others, but they are huge in determining my own personal development.

A long time ago, I made a pact with myself. I was going to bring my thoughts in line with what is positive, life-giving and true. I was not going to allow negative thoughts to dominate me, to control me or bring me down.

Interestingly, once I made that pact with myself, I realized just how much negativity was actually in my life. Try it. It seems we are quick to go to the negative and it requires an act of our will to remain positive. As I made this decision and began to train my thinking process to go to the positive, I noticed a shift in my life. People seemed nicer. I seemed to be promoted more quickly. And I was happier. It requires a level of faith to do this. The negative mind might say, I am just being a realist. The world is awful, the people around me are terrible, the money I make is appalling, and the government is rotten. But I like to think that I too am a realist. I believe that I can make a difference, that I can be the change that is needed, and that I can be happy despite what is going on around me.

I made a decision 45 years ago to align my thoughts with the most positive person I know; his name is Jesus Christ. This Sunday, I am sharing about what Jesus said about faith. He had a lot to say about faith and how important it is to believe the right things. Because the way we think will result in the way we act. The way we act will result in success or failure.

I would be delighted if you write me and tell me your story of how your thinking, (negative or positive) affected you and made a difference either for good or bad.

International Dinner

We are partnering with Rotary to host the International Dinner which will be held Thursday, Feb 8, 5:30pm at Mary Hall, Selkirk College.  They money raised will go towards a teacher at Haiti Arise and towards food security in Nelson, namely Our Daily Bread and Polio Eradication.

Tickets are available at the KCF office.  $50 per ticket (includes 20 dollar tax receipt).

KCF will be contributing a Pasta Basket to be auctioned off at the dinner.  We are welcoming quality items – all things Pasta and pasta related to be put in this awesome basket.  Items can be dropped off at the KCF office.

Our Daily Bread

Most days at ODB, we put out donated quality fresh vegetables and fruit as well as bread etc. for anyone to take home for free. Firstly, we welcome you to come and select from this abundance of food. Secondly, people often require plastic bags to take this food home in, and so we have an ongoing need for plastic bags.  If you have extra plastic bags that are overflowing in your closet or cupboard, please keep ODB in mind and drop them off anytime during our open hours or on Sunday mornings.

S.H.A.R.E. Nelson

S.H.A.R.E. is accepting and receiving donations and new items are being put out for sale every day. If you would like to volunteer at S.H.A.R.E. we currently have great ministry opportunities.  Call the store at 250.352.1222 or stop by the store to inquire.  Click on this link to check out S.H.A.R.E.’s video! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0aZX9v7gxdM
