Do you feel like you are on a treadmill? Get up, go to work, come home, make dinner, go to bed, get up and start all over again. Routine! Boredom? Is this all there is? When we are young often there is still hope that we can make a difference, change the world, make an impact. As time marches on our optimism is slowly but surely replaced with quiet resignation that this may be as good as it gets. If you are in this place, it can be a dangerous one. We may be tempted here to experiment with drugs, drink a little more to cut the boredom, or flirt a little just to add some spice to life. These choices may seem inconsequential at the time, but can and often do have devastating effects on one’s life and with those you are in relationships with. There is a better way.
Most people are not world shakers, movie makers, or miracle workers. Most of us are ordinary people, doing ordinary jobs, in an ordinary town, and living an ordinary life. How do you do that and still be excited to get up every morning to go to work and come home with enthusiasm at the end of every day? Well, glad you asked! In my recent Blogs, I have been talking about faith. It is possible to have faith for miracles, but it is also possible to have faith to live an ordinary life.
Think about the value of the person who does the ordinary job every day. There are the baristas for those coffee deprived people coming in each day. Consider people that take your money at the gas bar every day, all day long so you can drive your car. Speaking about driving, what about those people that get grease under their fingernails every day, just so we have safe reliable vehicles. We call police, fire and first responders essential service, (and they are) but imagine if all the people that are doing ordinary jobs suddenly just quit. All the restaurants would close, all the buses would stop running, all offices would close, (It is not the CEO’s that are essential, it is the people running the offices.) factories would shut down, airports would be empty (pilots would be there, but no one to take tickets or handle baggage). My point is that if ordinary people didn’t do ordinary jobs, our entire world would shut down. You may feel like your job is so ordinary that you don’t matter. Well, I have good news for you. You can have an infusion of faith that will give you the power to live an ordinary life with enthusiasm, purpose and joy.
That is the topic of my message this Sunday, called Faith to Live an Ordinary Life.
We will have Julie Evans share her story. Despite great challenges she has recently faced, she is able to live by faith in her ordinary life, I will speak about finding meaning to life, despite living in the mundane. You will learn how not to get trapped into deceptions that promise excitement, but deliver tragedy.
If you can relate to this topic and have found answers to find meaning in a mundane life, I would be happy to hear from you. Please email me what has helped you.

A big thank you to Cover Architecture, Innovative Housing Consultants, BC Housing, SHARE Housing Board, KCF, Pam Mierau, Manager of Development Service of Nelson, and Nelson City Council for the part each of you played in getting us this far.
The First Annual General Meeting of the Share Housing Initiative Society will be held on Tuesday, February 13th, 7pm at KCF. All are welcome.
Our Daily Bread
Most days at ODB, quality donated fresh vegetables and fruit as well as bread etc. is available to take home for free. Firstly, we welcome you to come and select from this abundance of food. Secondly, people often require plastic bags to take this food home in, and so we have an ongoing need for plastic bags. If you have extra plastic bags that are overflowing in your closet or cupboard, please keep ODB in mind and drop them off anytime during our open hours or on Sunday mornings.
