This week Canada has been rocked by another tragedy. The news outlets were just finishing up on the 1001 angles involved in the horrible accident in Humboldt. And then this, Alek Minassian, 25, of Richmond Hill, Ontario plowing into pedestrians along a strip of one of Toronto's busiest streets this past Monday, killing 10 and injuring 15 along the way. It was a senseless and barbaric assault on human life in Toronto. We could contribute the Humboldt accident to human error, but jumping a curb and roaring down a crowded sidewalk was calculated, purposed, and as dark as can be. In both cases there is incredible pain and heartache involved and we see the tremendous need for a Saviour. Our world is broken.
Sometimes bad things just happen. And then we have bad things that happen on purpose. Unfortunately, bad things are happening on purpose more and more often. We need a Saviour to comfort the broken hearted, to bind up our wounds, and to give hope to the hopeless. But we also need our Nation to return to righteousness. When righteousness is in the land, there is peace. (Isaiah 32:17)
For the most part, to be “righteous” is scoffed at. To live morally and upright is considered unenlightened. The fruit of our attempts to be unfettered to righteousness is more divorces and relational breakdowns, greater number of overdose deaths than ever before, mass shootings, an epidemic of mental illness and use of prescription drugs, sexual abuse, physical violence, and corruption at every level of government… peace is nowhere to be found.
We don’t need more laws, more rules or more control. We need more of Jesus, more of his love, and more of God’s righteousness to live in us.
Join with me in prayer for our Nation, our Province, our City and our Families that righteousness would again be held as a high value. It is the only way to peace in our hearts and in our land. And of course, pray for the families affected by this tragedy in Toronto.
This weekend I will be in the Vancouver area sharing the Gospel. Then on Monday I will be flying to Winnipeg to attend the FCA (Fellowship of Christian Assemblies) International Convergence Conference. Doreen will be joining me in Winnipeg. We will be in Manitoba until May 11th. Upon our return we will be taking a holiday until June 5th. During that time, I will not be in the office, answering emails, scheduling meetings or writing my blog. I will be using this time to refresh my spirit, connecting with God the Father, and reading a book or two. Thank you for your understanding and patience.
During my absence we will be continuing our sermon series Dreams to Destiny via a video series with Dr. Robert Morris. I know you will be blessed and encouraged each Sunday as you take in this rich and inspiriting series.
