Word In Us
If there is one thing that Covid 19 is teaching us, it is that we are very small indeed. All our power, money, status, plans have been stripped away. It scares us. The collective arrogance of the human race is humbled. Governments are throwing money at us. Positive thinkers are posting memes; we will get through this. Conspiracy theorists are predicting the worst, pastors are predicting the best, and the rest of us don’t know what to believe. Solomon, the philosopher of the Bible said, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven:” (Ecclesiastes 3:1) History teaches us the truth of this statement. Pandemics come and go, wars start and end, prosperity and poverty go in cycles. Life begins and ends. Nothing is forever or eternal, except one thing; that one thing is the Word of God. Jesus said everything will pass away except the Word of God; it will remain.
If that is the case, we ought to take the Word of God more seriously. In it: we have warnings, we have promises, we find direction for our lives, and by it we will some day be judged. In this day of uncertainty, I want to encourage us to open up the Bible. Look to the eternal Word of God for comfort, for hope, for direction, for peace, for correction, for encouragement. God speaks to us from the Word of God. Why not see what God has to say about life, pandemics, about his provision in times of uncertainty, about his love for us, about the discipline he imposes on the world when we get arrogant and we forget about God. It is all there, in the Word of God.
This Sunday, I will wrap up my Overcomer Series with a teaching on the “Importance of the Word of God Living in Us”. When the eternal Word lives in us, nothing is impossible, we are unstoppable, and no foe is formidable. We can and will be overcomers forever.
