Praying Prayers That Work

In the last number of weeks we have been writing and talking about Praying in a New Way. Have you ever taken time to analyze your prayers? Are they effective? Are they connecting? Are they transformative? Are they honest? Maybe you pray out of obligation, or only in desperation, but in either case, prayer may feel distant, useless, and even frustrating. If this has been your experience, perhaps take another look at the sermon series on the KCF Kootenay Christian Fellowship YouTube channel. It may help you to revitalize and energize your prayer life.

This week I am talking about “Prayer that Moves Mountains”. It is the Prayer of Faith. Jesus said, "Have faith in God, I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him.

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” (Mark 11:22-24)

In my early days as a Christian, I was riding in the back seat of my parent’s car. We were entering the Rocky Mountains on the way to Banff Alberta. Trying to impress my parents to have faith in God, I said with great authority, “you know, Jesus said, if you have faith, you can move that mountain and cast it into the sea.” To which my mom, said, “Show me.” Two words that crushed me. “Show me.”  I got my first of many lessons right there on humility and to be careful not to weaponize the scripture.

So what is the Prayer of Faith? Well-meaning preachers and wannabees have made great proclamations and declarations of what God can do or is going to do. And often it has left people disappointed, discouraged, and disillusioned, with prayer and/or in God.

Full disclosure, I believe in miracles as a result of the Prayer of Faith. However, we need to understand how this type of prayer works. And that will be the topic of this Sunday’s message at KCF. I will be answering the questions when to pray the Prayer of Faith, what it looks like and what we can expect to happen. This will be my last message within this sermon series, which segues nicely into our next sermon series called “Discerning the Voice of God.”

Look forward to you all being with us. Invite a friend, and as the evangelist says, come - expecting a miracle.
