Building together…
As we enter a new season - I love the sense of God also speaking in fresh ways, gathering us to himself, bringing words of life and hope, challenge and direction, and the sense of expectation for what he wants to do in us as a group of people.
I was reading in Ezra the other day and it has this interesting verse. The temple of God had been in disrepair, but the people had gathered together to rebuild it, and it says, “And the elders of the Jews were successful in building THROUGH the prophesying of Haggai the prophet and Zechariah...” (Ezra 6:14). They were successful through God’s words of life to them, sustaining and encouraging them… and if you have a quick look in Haggai and Zechariah, here are some of those words from God…
” I am with you” …” The latter glory of this house will be greater than the former.” … “I will fill this house with glory” … “My Spirit is abiding in your midst; do not fear” … “In this place I will give peace” … “I will dwell in your midst.” … “They shall be my people, and I will be their God…”
No wonder they were encouraged to build and not give up!
As we enter a new season, God also wants to breathe fresh words of encouragement and hope and a clear call to build! God commissions them in Haggai 2:4, “…and all you people of the land take courage,’ declares the LORD, ‘and work; for I am with you…”
This Sunday we start a new sermon series, giving vision for who we believe God is calling us to be as a church and what we are to be about. There will be words of hope and also a call to give ourselves in a fresh way to work, to dedicate ourselves to the purpose of being a place where we are both encountering God in our lives and also a place where others can encounter Him in our community. God wants us to see and know him and to make him known. And he has made a way to be with us!
Looking forward to a season of dedication, of our lives to the purpose of God. See you at the temple! : )
