Thinc Diphuruntly - Thinking affects our life!

Perfect peace! Have you experienced that? This is the promise given to us in Isaiah 26:3 “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.”

But the promise comes with two conditions. The first has to do with the mind, and the other has to do with the heart. The mind and the heart must come into agreement around the person of Jesus Christ and the resulting experience will be peace. This does not mean the absence of conflict, nor is it living without the common challenges of life. No, perfect peace does not mean you will be exempt from struggles in life. The peace we are promised will abide in us despite the challenges, struggles, and conflicts in our life that are common to all, if we will take charge or our mind and heart.

Trusting in God is not easy at times. Our heart wants to, but our mind begins to evaluate the impossibilities, the improbabilities, the implausible, and we begin to waiver. Instead of being steadfast, we become tossed about, doubting and worrying and peace evaporates like the morning mist on a hot summer day.

Some things we have control over, other things not so much. What I have control over is my will to trust God, so I train my mind to remain steadfast on him. This saves me from a lot of conflict that others may experience. Peace is a natural by-product of living a moral and upright life, treating neighbors like you would want to be treated and worshiping God. What I don’t have control over is the way others act, what happens in nature, and who sits beside me on a crowded airplane. But here too, I have learned that if my mind remains on Christ and I trust him for my life, peace doesn’t elude me. Instead, the peace of God rules my life, allowing me to retain my joy, my blood pressure remains normal, and I can still be pleasant to be around.

Yesterday, Doreen and I were in Kimberley, BC to attend the BC 55+ games. (They don’t want to call it Seniors Games anymore because that was apparently offensive. Somebody apparently lost their peace over the name.) While waiting to get into the designated building to register; the weather turned nasty, it was raining, cold and miserable. We were told to take refuge in another building, Doreen and I happily made our way there. I opened the door and we stepped in. The door closed behind me with a resounding crash. It startled me. Everyone in the room looked at us. Awkward. We sat down with others who were also waiting for the registration building to open. The offending door was located right behind us, with a steady stream of cold/wet seniors using it, seeking to escape the rain filled day. Crash, Crash, Crash is what we heard with each person entering our space. The person next to me, was visibly upset at this loud intrusion piercing our tranquility. I have to admit, it was annoying. But it was not worth losing one’s peace over. In comparison, this is a small irritant; in a life filled with a constant barrage of irritants. But then, is there anything worth losing our peace over? I say not. Peace is our greatest gift. If our mind is stayed on Christ, as we trust him, peace will rule our hearts.

This week, Doreen and I will be spending our time in the Cranbrook/Kimberley area. I will be running in the 5k and 1500-meter race, and Doreen will be playing Cribbage. We will find some time to enjoy our Grandkids while here. Then on Sunday, we will be sharing at the Dwelling Place in Cranbrook.

Brad Wilson will be continuing with our theme, Think Differently and will be speaking on Isaiah 26:3 as his theme. I know it will be a meaningful message for us all as we learn to bring our mind in line with God’s word.

Growth Group

Two groups filled, and third one filling up. We have room for more people. Don’t miss out sign up as soon as possible, so you won’t be left out. Challenge yourself to go deeper with God and his people as we commit to Growth groups this fall. The third group, hosted by yours truly, will start one week later than the other Groups. If we get our mandatory 12 people, we will start on Thursday, September 20th and will run until November 29th.

Those who have been in Growth Groups, have experienced deeper connections with God and have found clearer understanding of the Bible. They are also finding closer relationships with the people in the groups as they study the previous Sunday’s sermon and engage in discussion and prayer time with each other. This is a great place to find support, love and encouragement in life’s challenges.

The dessert time, socials and service projects provide opportunity for lots of fun and community connections.

Contact the KCF office to register or sign up at the Information Table on Sunday.
