Lord, use me

We are talking about prayers God always says yes to. One of them is “Lord, use me”. This is a scary prayer. And don’t pray it if you are not serious about becoming an ambassador of heaven here on earth. There are no insignificant people, no one is redundant, and none are without a purpose. We are on this earth to be a blessing, a conduit of God’s grace and an expression of Divine love.

Last week we asked, Does God exist? Well, this will be perhaps the quickest way to confirm his existence. Ask Him to make you an instrument of his blessing on the earth. This kind of prayer will result in a situation where you will be able to exact some kindness, help someone in distress, or make a small or big difference in someone’s life.

It usually happens quickly like in the next hour, or later in the day, but not longer than a few days. God will show up with an opportunity. It may surprise you how quickly this prayer is answered. God has created you to be his expression of love on the earth and is waiting for permission to use you in this capacity. It could be in the form of a kind word, shovelling a neighbor’s walk, praying with a co-worker, bringing soup to a sick person, walking with someone down the street and listening to their story, a hand on a shoulder in comfort, or just a simple smile, a hearty laugh that cheers up everyone around you.

Just the other day, God used me to be a blessing to a person. It happened like this. I tend to walk fast and often catch up with someone I know. Usually I will give a greeting as I pass on by. But sometimes I need to slow down and just walk with that person and share the moment together. I did that and God used me to encourage another life without forethought or planning.

We have to be careful here or we will miss the moment before us. For some of us, we are so used to living our own self-absorbed lives that we fail to see the occasion to be a blessing before us.

To be used of God, doesn’t require a degree, a suit, or to be somebody of influence. All you need is to be yourself; the person God created. Each of us have unique abilities, talents, and characteristics that are perfectly suited to be a blessing to others that no one else can duplicate. So why not take a risk, join the adventure, and ask God to be his instrument of blessing. Enjoy the fun.

This Sunday, I am going to enlarge on this topic. I will be giving examples of ordinary people making this prayer and becoming extraordinary people. It will be a fun time together, a time of encouragement, and maybe just maybe, God will even use you to help someone change the course of their lives for eternity. Exciting. See you this Sunday.
