God, give me Peace

Trouble! Someone has said, you are either getting into trouble, in trouble, or just getting out of trouble. Only to repeat the cycle again. “As sure as sparks fly upward, humans are born to trouble? (Job 5:7) Problems, challenges, difficulties, yes trouble is a fact of life. If you are striving for the absence of trouble as a life goal, you will be disappointed. More importantly, you will be cheating yourself of growth, wonderful experiences, and personal development. I am not talking about self-inflicted trouble, although this too can be of value. No, I am speaking about life that happens in the normal course of things. Each time you start a new task, it is troublesome. Each time there is a promotion, trouble will come with it.

When you want to make a change, expect trouble. We should not shrink from this, but embrace it instead. As Epicurus said, “The greater difficulty, the more glory in surmounting it. Skillful pilots gain their reputation from storms and tempests.”

So what is the secret to successfully navigate life in the midst of trouble? How can one cope without getting high blood pressure, experiencing nervous breakdowns, and sleepless nights? Good question and I am glad you asked. The answer is peace. Peace is the ability to have internal, abiding confidence without anxiety. True “peace” is not the absence of trouble, but the inner calm and assurance that it is going to be ok, despite the world falling apart all around you.

Peace is amazing. It will give you strength that defies logic. It will carry you through even though it feels like you can’t make it. It will help you to stand, despite the impression of the world falling apart around you. Some think they can manufacture peace, like taking a nature walk, being in a meditative state, or moving to a new city. All these things may offer temporal reprieve, but to have abiding peace in every circumstance is not manufactured by a clever Facebook meme, yoga pose, or some illicit or legal drug. Peace is not an emotion. This is where we get mixed up. We think it is a feeling, an emotional state, tranquility of the mind. Peace is a person. That person is called the Prince of Peace. His name is Jesus Christ. When Jesus lives in us, peace abides in us. Jesus could sleep in a storm, reverse an impossible situation, and even rise above the finality of death. He is peace, where peace is impossible. That is why Apostle Paul could claim with such confidence, “Don’t be anxious” [because] “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6,7)

Anthony DeStefano writes in his book, Ten Prayers God Always Says Yes, “If you ask God for his peace, you won’t ever have to worry about peace being a mere “phase” in your life; you won’t ever have to worry about it being some false feeling of tranquility that vanishes at the first sign of trouble. God won’t let that happen. When you say the words “God, give me peace,” he will immediately begin the work of building up a real, lasting peace in your soul—a peace that resides deeper within you than any of your shifting emotions, a peace that has the power to endure any crisis, any storm, any problem.”

Want to know more? Come this Sunday to KCF. Anxiety Out, Peace In will be the theme. Looking forward to seeing you there.

Evangelism in Haiti

In late February Pastor Jim and Trevor Miller are heading to Haiti. The money that was raised at SpagHaiti will be used for the Children’s Village and we are very grateful for your generosity to make this a reality.

Another exciting aspect of this trip is that there will be an Evangelical Campaign and Church Plant. A total of $2,000 is required for this to occur. Donations to this cause can be made at KCF. Identify your payment as Haiti Evangelical. Thank you for supporting this endeavor.

We are happy to report that the International Dinner is sold out and we are looking forward to a wonderful time together as this event happens tonight.
