Why Should I Trust God?
The Issue of trust is not simple. When the car salesman says, trust me, this car is great. Maybe not so much. In fact, if someone has to say “trust me” it is usually a good place for our spider senses to rise up and cry DANGER. It is universally accepted; trust is the foundation to any relationship. Without trust, it is impossible to have any sort of meaningful connection with people or with God for that matter. Interestingly, our lack of trust with humans will mirror perfectly our ability to trust God as well. So why should I trust God, when all around me trust is being violated, abused, and taken for granted?
Here is what I found; when I began to trust God irrespective of human’s faults and failings, I found it easier to trust humans despite their shortcomings. And most importantly, I became wiser in my interpersonal relationships as well; thus, keeping me from unnecessary pain and heartache. That might be the most important reason to trust God, as it will help us to navigate life a lot better. But it still begs the question, why should I trust God? The former answers the question of the value to trusting God, while the later addresses the real dilemma of ‘is God trustworthy’? The Holy Scriptures say, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.” (Proverbs 3:5) “Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act.” (Psalm 37:5)
One of the requirements of trust is the condition of trustworthiness. In other words, does God have the attribute of Trustworthiness? The Christian church celebrates this weekend as its most important holiday. Easter is essential to the trustworthiness of God. Jesus said, in three days he would rise again from the dead. If Jesus did not rise, then the entire claim of Christianity is false, and God can not be trusted. The resurrection claim that Jesus made is unique to all spiritual leaders. Other religions will ask of their followers to follow their leaders’ teachings, ideas, and philosophies. Not JESUS. He said, Follow Me. Not in an esoteric sense, he actually meant for his disciples to “follow him.” Pretty hard to follow a dead man; we would get as far as the graveyard. But with Jesus he lives and thus I can follow him where he leads me. I can go through life with confidence, knowing that Jesus is actually alive. Jesus himself is with me. Time again and again, I see Jesus working on my behalf and each time Jesus comes through for me, and my trust level grows.
This Easter Sunday, I am going to unpack this more for us. I will show you why you can trust God, why it is important to follow Jesus, and how you can become a true functioning, spirit-filled disciple of Jesus.
Easter Celebrations
This coming Sunday, we will have three wonderful events you can take part in. First, enjoy the Easter morning with Christians from many different churches, 8am, Lakeside Park at the Flagpole. Then come on down to KCF for an Extreme Scrumptious Continental Breakfast at 8:45; once our bellies are full, we will celebrate the resurrection together at 10:25. What a great morning it will be. Each of the events is open to the community and everyone is encouraged to bring family and friends.
Growth Groups
Groups are now underway. We are excited that this has grown to 3 groups for this round. It is not too late to join a Thursday night group this week. There are limited spaces available, so don’t miss out! The theme we will explore together is Demystifying God.
Group gatherings are running Wednesday and Thursday evenings until June 12/13 and then we will break until Fall.

P.A.R.T. (Pedal Along a Rail Trail) 14
This super fun bike ride with a purpose is set to happen on Saturday, June 22. Come and join us for this incredibly scenic 4 to 5-hour ride with trestles, tunnels and spectacular views from high above the Arrow Lake. It is a 54 km ride starting at Paulson Detour Road and concluding at the Celgar Mill parking lot. This is a key fundraiser for Our Daily Bread. Summer Retreat at Dutch Harbour
Why not consider taking a part of your holidays to join us for a Summer Retreat at Dutch Harbour. This is an inexpensive opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, Kootenay Lake, beautiful mountains and beaches, plus be inspired and encouraged. This will all happen within the community of wonderful people. Pastor Glenn Breitkreuz will be our retreat Speaker and Cliff Schneider will provide Children’s Ministry for the kids.
